Salvete.
I would like to know why the word ‘absurdum’ is neuter in the phrase ‘reductio ad absurdum’?
I’m asking this question as I felt I had, perhaps, been too vague in a previous topic.
I’m grateful for the help I received and now understand why it’s in the accusative, but I’m perplexed as to why it’s neuter.
I think I understand that some adjectives, that are frequently used substantively, become nouns in their own right, but what is the rule as regards the gender of that noun?
I hope others find this line of enquiry useful and as interesting as I do.
Thanks for everyone’s patience.
