Why ‘ea’ LLPSI Familia Romana. Capitulum Decimum p69 l. 8?

Salvete.

I’m working my way through LLPSI Familia Romana and rate it very highly. Yesterday I found that we have all got COVID and not merely bad colds. No worries but perhaps I’m not reaching my usual standards in my studies. Towit, I’ve found myself puzzling over a couple of points in this chapter.
On page 69 l.8 ‘Canis amicus hominis est, ea bestia fera non est’. My question is why ‘ea’? We haven’t yet been introduced to Margarita (f). Is ea referring to a beast (f) but not a wild one?
Any insights into what I’ve missed and quite what’s going on would be appreciated. I hope I’m not being too lazy.

Thanks

ea modifies feminine bestia – “that animal”

Thanks for answering. I can see how it works now that you’ve pointed me in the correct direction.

Now that I’m looking at this in a better frame of mind, I’ve got this niggling feeling that I’ve seen something about ‘bestia fera’ in Allen and Greenough. I shall hunt this down before moving on!
