Just notified that I would be receiving West in a few days through interlibrary loan. I have it until September and can renew after that. So nice to have access to a university library again!
Enjoy! Gordon College has a copy of it up here in the Boston area and I was able to borrow it and renew three times, which gave me six weeks. That was my first exposure to one of West’s commentaries and I found I needed almost 6 weeks to get through it because it is very, very thorough. I’m almost tempted to buy a copy just to be able to refer back to the prolegomena and the excursi as well as the critical apparatus, all of which are extremely detailed and informative.
Thanks, Aetos. I have West for the Theogony, and found him invaluable. And I got it for free at the Philadelphia Classical Society’s professional day, which includes giving away books that have been donated or retired. I didn’t know at the time what I was getting!
Thanks for the heads up! I can’t let that deal slip by. West refers to W&D frequently in his Theogony commentary, so it helps to be able to check his notes in the W&D, which was published 12 years after the Theogony. I remember that there are also some points he makes in the W&D that reflect a change of mind after writing the Theogony.
Thanks again, Mark!
Try booko.us. They show Abebooks out of the UK at 25 + 7 bucks shipping. Biblio has a copy for 23 + 12.13 shipping. Abebooks in the US has 165 and 0 shipping
I think Aetos snagged the only copy at that price. When I clicked markcmueller’s link shortly after it was posted, there was one copy for around $30 with shipping; after Aetos posted, it was gone. The UK copy at booko.us/booko.info is the one Aetos (if it was Aetos) purchased; booko.us just hasn’t updated their database yet. If you click through to Abebooks from booko.us, it says “item sold.”
I confess! I did order the copy. It almost feels like winning the lotto. I never have that kind of luck. In any event, thanks again to Mark Mueller for spotting it.
