Usque ad

Hi all.

Can usque ad be used with verbs to render the English word until ?

The romance languages require a relative clause when used with usque ad and a verb.

Until he arrives
Hasta lo que llegue -SP
Jusqu’Ã ce qu’il arrive - FR
Fino a che arriva - IT

Would latin also take a relative clause?

? Usque ad id quod advenit ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Salve und guten Tag, David:

VSQVE AD requires a noun or nominalized verb construction, exempli gratia:

usque ad vesperum
usque ad eventum quoddam

Otherwise, DONEC is used with verbs:

donec sol occidit
donec amica sua advenit

The Italian analogy would be:
fino a
finché

Dum + the subjunctive also works for “until”.
