Unit 29, Part I, Exercise 7

Χαίρετε!

I forgot to ask a question about Dr. Mastronarde’s Unit 27, Part I, Exercise 7.

I am supposed to write, “A deep sleep held those who drank a lot.”

The answer book wrote, “ὕπνος βαθὺς τοὺς πολὺ πιόντας εἶχεν.”

Instead of πολὺ, I had ἐκείνους in my head. Is it legal to use ἐκείνους?

I think that you can add the demonstrative as long as it is in the predicate position (see page 110, unit 13).

So I would do this:

ὕπνος βαθὺς ἐκείνους τοὺς πολὺ πιόντας εἶχεν.

I think you meant “τοὺς” not πολὺ.

“c. ἐκεῖνος, ἐκείνη, ἐκεῖνο, that one there, the more distant. This word usually points to something relatively distant from the speaker. When contrasted with οὗτος, ἐκεῖνος means the former versus the latter.” p. 109

So I dont think it quite fits here,

Happy new Year!

(I know you have a few more hours to go but I can hear fireworks here and it will be new year soon. Alas as I write this The Uk has formally left the EU, a sad day for me.)

Covid-19 restrictions aside, are you more restricted with Brexit? I am not sure what to think of it.
