Translation for a family crest

Hi there!

My name’s Cat. I’m a newbie here and I am a complete novice when it comes to Latin. I’m hoping you guys can help me out with something. We’ve been talking about our family crest & motto lately and joking about how our motto should be “I’d rather not”. I’d love to have a crest made with this but don’t want to cobble together a shoddy translation myself, so I figured I’d come to the experts! A Facebook friend suggested “ut non potius”, does that seem right? Or are there nuances that this translation doesn’t capture? I’m hoping for something that translates pretty much directly, but if the closest we can get is an approximation that works too, just so long as it captures the essence

Any help would be great, thanks!

Cat

Unfriend him now! How about nolim?

Haha this is why I came to the pros! So you think just “nolim” on its own gets the point across?

Yes, or you could make it “potius nolim”, to appease your facebook friend and to capture perhaps something of the tone.

Beautiful, thanks for your help!
