This is what a dutch friend of mine said a friend of his saw in an inscription. I bet he just misunderstood some of the letters and I can make one or two guesses about some of those but on the whole I’m at my wits end. Any ideas guys?

Going with Bert’s rooster suggestion and trying out a number of different combinations of what the letters could be, I came up with

The first part kind of makes sense but not the last word, and that one’s just a complete guess. I also found ΗΛΙΑΤΩ, but that makes even less sense to me.

Just to add, I’m not really sure that my ΘΗΛΩ? makes sense either.

hi, this is an inscription so a dedication is likely, it looks like an apollo one but i can’t be sure, someone who studies epigraphy could crack this. generally the spacings could be wrong, i know iotas are often left out and there are abbreviations in all the inscriptions i’ve read, and so possibly the gist is

if someone grabs an epigraphy book they could probably sort this out quickly i think, cheers, chad.

bert, modus, chad thank you!

Chad it really makes sense! Now I feel (even more) stupid for not thinking about it at all!

hi irene, nah don’t trust my guess, i don’t study epigraphy, and i know how long it took to learn to read papyri… there’ll be an edited version of this inscription somewhere… good luck cracking it
