It’s been quite a while since my last publication here. Today I came across a short Christian anecdote and it inspired me to get back to practice. Here is my attempt.
σοφός τίς ποτε ἐνέτυχε βασιλεῖ τινί.
πόθεν ἤλθες; ὁ βασιλεὺς ἠρώτησε.
ἐκ γεέννης· ἀπεκρίνατο ὁ σοφός.
καὶ τί ἐκεῖ ἔπραξας;
δεόμενος πυρὸς ᾔτησα τοὺς ἐκείνους δοῦναι μοι, ἀλλὰ ὁ τῶν ἐκείνων ἡγεμὼν εἴπε μοι ὅτι οὐδὲν ἔχοιεν. ἰδὼν δὲ με σφόδρα θαυμάζοντα ἀπεδήλωσε εἴπων· λέγω σοι ὅτι ἐκεῖ οὐδὲν πῦρ ἔνεστι, πᾶς γὰρ μετὰ τοῦ ἑαυτοῦ ἔρχεται.
Not much to correct here. Just one or two fiddly things:
ἠρότησε: ἠρώτησε
δὲ με: δέ με or δ’ ἐμὲ
τοὺς ἐκείνους: τοὺς εκεῖ (or delete τοὺς). Sim. with τῶν ἐκείνων.
ἀπεδήλωσε: is this a word?

- ἀπεδήλωσε was probably not the best word choice. I thought about aor. 3 sg. ind from ἀποδηλόω to say “he explained”.

Yes εκεῖνος, like οὗτος, never has the article.
