σπινθήρ, the sparkly worm

I was doing some vocabulary study and came across σπινθήρ, “spark.” When I do this sort of thing, I always look around for English cognates. Turns out there’s a genus of worms called Spinther. The Wikipedia article shows a photo of a boring-looking preserved specimen that looks sort of like a pillbug, so I’m wondering, why would they have called it by this name? It turns out that when you see the live animal in bright light, it’s absolutely glorious (although tiny). The best image I’ve seen is in this paper: https://academic.oup.com/mbe/article/32/11/2860/981436

If my bad karma causes me to be reincarnated as a worm, I want to be reincarnated as the sparkly worm!
