The position of the noun in the Subj Inf vs. Norm Sentence

Look at these two sentences

AMBULARE LIBERI EST GRATUM

LIBERI GRATUM AMBULANT

The first sentence is a subjective infinitive. It could
also be written without the subject and it would be

AMBULARE EST GRATUM

The second setence is the normal sentence order of a
noun with a conjugated verb.

They are practically the same thing. All the words are the
same. Is the difference between a subjective infiniitive with
and without subject and a normal sentence simply that the
verb is conjugated at the end?

Thanks.

Amice, quid est gratum? Nonne est ‘ambulare’?

‘liberi’ is not the subject in your sentence, ambulare is. (in fact i’m not too sure how ‘liberi’ fits in).

The infinitive is called the subjective infinitive, because in this sentence the subject happens to an infinitive.

Malum est gratum = An apple is nice.
Ambulare est gratum = to walk (or walking) is nice.

hope this helps
