Such a beautiful, and very true, quote, isn’t it? I learned of it about a few days ago, or maybe it’s already been a week (tempus fugit). It’s by Joseph Campbell if anyone wants to know, who wrote a very good book (from what I hear at least since I have not read it) on comparative mythology titled The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Anyways, I attempted to translate this very beautiful, very true quote into Latin. Here’s my attempt.
Antrum quod intrare times thesaurum quem quaeris tenet.
Well? What do you all think? Do you approve? Or is it too literal? Could it have been better translated? How would you translate it? If I were to criticize myself I would say that I used the wrong word for hold (tenet). I feel that that’s the only place my translation is too literal. What do you all think?
Gratias vobis ago.
