Teaching Latin Suggestions

Ok, I’m going to teach someone Latin, I’ll probably be using Ecce Romani (I own the collection) but in a hurried pace, and then move on to Eutropius. Sounds good? What about dollars? $15 American sounds OK? Any suggestions?

You should surely charge more than $15; not only do you own the FULL set of Ecce Romani but your oversight to a course that is sufficient for autodidacts in itself is utterly essential. I can only hope that your posited fee is by the minute and that the lucky pupil is able to part with the funds justifiably demanded.

Well, she just graduated grad school, working part time as a teacher, has a son to feed, and is in the middle of a divorce. Plus, she got me a cool Christmas gift. She’s more of a friend now then just a pupil…

Oh, and it’s the older version of Ecce Romani… You know, with book 1 & 2 combined, and now book three just got a rerelease. But still…

*than. i’m glad to hear you’re optimising her financial expenditure, her being a friend ktl.

Ego pulsarem! :smiling_imp:

Only joking! Why charge her at all? You could acquire something worth more than the square of $15 if you teach idiosyncratically and entertain her you might form a bond and eventually be co-authors of a latin romance novel which you could perhaps turn into reality.

Charge what you think you can get, or don’t charge. Your choice.

Although, the romance novel idea sounds just peachy to me…

Pfft, not preachy at all! I would say. I’ve written short little romance stories in Latin before, and they’re a huge amount of fun to do. I think that’s a great idea, Episcope.

I love using the vocative in such stories …

Latin has to be the single greatest language for romantic scenes because you can just pile in your absolutes and participles along with subordinate clauses inside the main verb. It takes a good writer to execute something that do not look like a mess but when done properly and read appreciated it can be incredible.

Yad said ‘peachy’, not preachy’. Quite a difffrence.

I think the main moral of this thread is ego ferirem.
