Swedish gråmmar

Hey my good textkit friends

Jag vill svensk biblion finden och Ich know also that that was not really Swedish but quite close especially with the circle thing. på in your fåce.

Ok now seriously. I have not studied anything really since D’Ooge, if you please don’t count that FAILURE to even come close to finishing JWW. I have learned a bit of Italian, and Spanish, deniqueque didici patris linguam scribere. But I have no one with whom I might speak these 3 languages, no real resources, no real uses, no real desire to er…understand the spoken languages or speak myself. Plus my vocabulary is terrible, simply because I never use the tongues. Still I am ok considering that I have only casually read bits of grammar for about 1 month, on and off.

Anyhow that’s the background, boredom and no use. Jag need änother language. Ich am thinking of Pharr’s Greek Homeric sheets from textkit. That looks sweet. Simply because Jag wonder whether the epic be as good as they say it to be.

Nevertheless, in terms of modern language, I fail at shapes and time and boredom so Japanese, Chinese etc. is out the window. For now at least, until I find a class with some nice asian study partners to inspire me.
So I said hmm I like Swedish. It seems cool and not to hard. Sometimes it is hauntingly similar to English like Dutch, which disturbs me. But it’s not that familiar. Hence I am taking a wild stab in the dark in asking whether any one know a nice old Swedish grammar, like D’Ooge, which can teach one Swedish without! the “Hello? What’s Your Name?” chapter :unamused:

I mean ye never know, annis might come at us in old Viking tongue. Thank you

Thorr er asanna framastr, sa er kalladhr er Asa-thorr edha Oku-thorr; hann er sterkastr allra gudhanna ok manna.

(Where’s the thorn on this annoying keyboard?!)

:open_mouth: Ye DID realise that I meant that as a effing JOKE!

epi, you forgot - Will knows nealry every language that ever existed and probably a few that never really did.

You expect me to pass up an easy serve?

Alt-0222 (Þ) and Alt-0254 (þ).

Hey guess what. I went to the library today because I do not go to school longer, I saw Hugo Swedish in 3 Months! Picked it up along with an extremely crazy Latin book and boosh my library card is expired. I went back home with forms and filled them in and did all this bureaucracy trash, I clearly live up the road proof of my address effeu!

Anyway…flips through pages…Dingbat :exclamation: Get down here now. The pronounciation is crazy.

“de is usually pronounced dom”. “sk is also stj” etc.

But, flicks the pages…ah “Here is a list of the most common deponent verbs”

My favourite word is “flicka” girl, if you’ve ever been to sweden and know how they say it. It is a word that sounds like a beautiful swedish girl.

Hur gammal är du? Sexton?

inspärra du är inte en biskop lik jag

Inspärra?? No, sorry, I don’t know that. (to inspire? Seems like an infinitive…)

Du är - it is “you are”, isn’t it?

Inte en biskop lik jag - uhm… is en “one” or “a”? “Not a bishop I am like”???

Pardon my Swedish… I’ve just started learning it off the Internet with a dictionary and a conjugator in the last 15 minutes.

uh…well that would mean that I have been learning it for less time than ye, so you had best avoid assuming that that line were correct but receive the message conveyed. Also don’t insult Swedish by implying that one can learn it properly with an online dictionary and a conjugator. Wait 1 or 2 months I will post a topic in Swedish and you all think I am lying. If you want to learn properly Swedish try and get hold of Hugo Swedish in 3 Months  Deponent verbs

Well, I was just trying to get some sort of grounding in it (of course you can’t just learn Swedish from a dictionary and paradigms!!). I do that with most languages I learn. I learn some linguistic background, some of the basic salutations and if I have a definite purpose (like now, for instance) I try and translate quickly. It will be appalling Swedish that I churn out, but it meets the standard of beginner’s language (i.e. it is intelligible- the bare minimum of any language). My temporary aim for these minutes is to reply to your message, not learn Swedish.

I don’t just have the dictionary and conjugator, there are basic salutations, various uhm… word lists etc.

I’m sorry if I offended you.

I was only joking  wherewith you might be propelled to find a good swedish book. Lovely language. So singy.

LOL, inspärra means lock someone up.

haha! Do not hurt me I only study Swedish for 1 day. But I will not quit, you can inspärra me if I try to
