The following are examples of verbs which may have infinitives as objects:
DESEDERO, PROHIBEO
In the following sentence the second verb is the objective infinitive (LABORARE) and the main verb is DESEDERARE.
VIR SERVOS LABORARE DESEDERAT
LABORARE is the objective infinitive.
There is also in the book a Subjective infinitive with very little explanation as to how it works except it is obvious which verb is the subjective infinitive. There are no rules as to why there is only one verb in the sentence and what makes the subjective infinitive its own special class.
AMBULARE EST GRATUM
or
LIBEROS AMBULARE EST GRATUM
(Sometimes it has a subject in the accussative)
Why is the subjective infinitive different from a normal infinitive (like a complementary or an objective)? The subjective infinitive is AMBULARE.
Why it is special i do not know. This looks like somebody just left the verb in the infinitive or something for no reason and it isn’t a special case such as the objective infinitive (such words as DESEDERO, VETO, PROHIBEO, DOCEO)
What is the subjective infinitive and why is it different?
