The account africa has made a single post and it does look as if it was created simply to provide a link to an off topic film site:

This spam account has still not been closed down. Would it be possible to give some of the more active posters administration rights on the forum so that the workload of preventing spam is spread?
If no one is approving new accounts or shutting down spam accounts, this forum’s time is limited. If someone could be granted admin privileges, that would be perfect.
I can set up a new forum if this one is really abandoned, but I’d much rather not. It would be painful to see all the discussion here go away.
Joel has shown great commitment and would be an ideal candidate to add as an admin-deputy, Jeff.
(Amusing you would be willing to take on such a role Joel?)
If no one else can, sure, but I think that there are people on the board who have both Latin and Greek, and some are already limited moderators for specific boards. They would be better choices, I think.
To my knowledge, there’s not much need for moderating specific boards. Only one (notorious…) case comes to mind where a real poster should maybe have been banned. The problem, to my knowledge, is rather approving new accounts and filtering out spam accounts. The moderators have other commitments in life like we all do, and often there’s a long lag before new members are admitted, which probably makes valuable future members go away.
What I’d suggest is to make a few active posters, as many as are willing, admins. If there were several new admins, each one could filter new account candidates occasionally without feeling overburdened. I’ll certainly volunteer as an “assistant admin”, but I’d hesitate to commit myself to become a “full admin”. Sometimes I have time for the forum, sometimes not so much (like in the last weeks).
I’m unfamiliar with the technical aspects of all this, but I assume it’s pretty straightforward.
I’ve created a forum (temporarily). If you are a new user waiting to get approved, feel free to post here:
If the admins come back to textkit, I’ll take it down.
