I would like to know this dictionary’s source. The blurb on the opening pages mentions that it is “compiled on the basis of modern lexicographical principles”, but there is no detail anywhere. Did Traupman make manual lists from the most read Latin texts in Latin classes in the United States back in the 1960s when the first edition was published? Or did he use a corpus created by someone else? Or perhaps he translated an existing German-Latin dictionary, or parts of it?
I expect he used Lewis and Short, but I don’t know, and I haven’t made a comparison.
