Septuagint Psalm 106/107

Verse 24:

αὐτοι εἴδοσαν τὰ ἔργα κυρίου καὶ τὰ θαυμάσια αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ βυθῷ

What is εἴδοσαν ? I assume it’s from ὁράω , but I can’t parse it – and nor can Perseus!

Logos says it is Aorist Active Indicative 3rd Person Plural.

Shouldn’t that be εἴδον ?

perhaps both forms were used at different times… eidosan does have a more regular form for an aorist anyway.

In Koine Greek, the ending ‐σαν was widely used. So could the 3rd person plural aorist II (or even imperfect) indicative active be distinguished from the 1st person singular : Chantraine, Morphologie historique du grec, mentions ὑπελαμβάνοσαν, ἀπήλθοσαν, εἴχοσαν, ἐδοκοῦσαν instead of ὑπελάμβανον, ἀπῆλθον, εἶχον, ἐδόκουν.

Good, I’m all in favour of disambiguation.
