I previously posted about this replying to the topic about Private Forums No IP Filtering, but maybe it’s better as a topic in its own right. Does anyone else find that the RSS feed no longer works? The feed in my feed reader, NetNewsWire, stopped working on 18 January, though there have bern many posts across the board since then. Bizarrely, one post got through, but only this one:
What, I wonder, is going on?
The RSS feed does not work for private forums, only the public (currently just the book collection) forums. If you have an RSS aggregator that supports private feeds, you can set it up to log in with a username and password.
I could bring the forums public again, but even in the current situation, I’m still having to block a new IP range about once a day (Friday at 3:36pm, and Saturday at 8:18am, one scanner tracing to an Indian IP, and another to an American). With the forums private, these scans only take down search and pages that rely on it “unread posts,” etc., and cause bandwidth usage. But were the forums public again, the whole site would go down whenever it comes on, as it was doing last week.
Maybe whoever it is will give up over the course of the week. Otherwise I’m going to need to work out something to get Cloudflare or another CDN installed in front of the site in order to get things public again.
Thanks. NNW does support private feeds so I’ll try that. I quite understand the need to keep these villains out. Good luck with your endeavours
