[Pontifical University of the HOLY CROSS

Ancient Greek intensive course
with the Polis Institute method
Learn to speak ancient Greek as a living language!](http://en.pusc.it/centri/dipartimento-di-lingue/corsi-estivi/greco)

Dates:
From 2 to 20 July 2018
from 9:00 to 13:00
from Monday to Friday

Would you like to read in the original the New Testament, the Parallel Lives of Plutarch, or the Histories of Polybius, as you would read an English text? By hearing and speaking ancient Greek, you can learn the language which molded western culture, as naturally as you would learn a modern language: in a living way. With the Polis method, you can do it.

This course draws most of its inspiration from cutting-edge techniques usually used for teaching modern languages. This method offers a series of Greek texts and exercises according to a natural progression. From the first class, the course is taught in Greek and the students dialog and interact with the teacher in Greek. The vocabulary applied during the course is drawn from different areas of the corpus: Apollonius Dyscolus (grammatical vocabulary), Plutarch (day-to-day words) and New Testament concordances (common vocabulary). In addition, the vocabulary of the Septuagint is used when appropriate.

N.B.: Courses will open provided that enough students register.

FWIW I took these classes four years ago and they were fantastic. I went from having a basic understanding of the grammar (having worked through the first ten chapters of Hansen & Quinn previously) to reading Koine Greek directly from the bible during that summer.

Highly recommended.
