Orberg LLSPI Cap XLIII habet:

Pugna atrox ad silvam Malitiosam fuit, ubi equitatu nuper aucto plurimum Romana acies valuit.
plurimum is an adverb but I’m not sure what role it plays here.

There was a terrigle battle at the Malitiosan(?) Wood where with the cavalry recently added the Roman division for the most part was successful / was the victor ??

acies is the army.

plurimum valuit – “was most successful”, “was stongest”: either “was very successful/strong” (absolute superlative) or “was more successful/stronger than elsewhere/than on any other occasion.”

Thanks Qimmik.
