Professor Mastronarde Unit 35 Part II Exercise 1

Χαίρετε!

I must still be having a lot of confusion with Unit 35. I am supposed to translate this into Greek:

ὅστις ἂν πρέσβεις ἀδικῇ, εἰ μὴ αὐτίκα ἀλλὰ τέλος δίκην δίδωσιν.

  1. Before I start translating, I am trying to figure out which pattern from Unit 35 this falls into. The first clause starts with an indefinite pronoun, the second with an “if.” I figure the second clause is the protasis but do not know if I call the first clause the apodosis or something else?
  2. The second clause has an εἰ + indicative pattern, so it looks like it is a neutral condition. Is that correct?

The syntax looks good (ὅστις ἂν πρέσβεις ἀδικῇ an indefinite relative clause). You might put δίκην δίδωσιν directly after the ὅστις clause, for extra clarity. δίκην δίδωσιν is actually the apodosis (aka main clause).
