I attempted to print a part of JWW’s illustrated dictionary but the print ended up so small that I’d have to be desperate to use it.
I would like to use it before derperation sets in.
Is there some way to manipulate ‘something’ to increase the printing size?
The good news: this works.
The bad news: It’s fairly manually inentsive.
First, I assume you are using Adobe Reader 6.0 or better. I can’t say if this option is available under the 5.0 version. But you should be able to upgrade to 6 fairly easily.
I. Resize your view window to show only one printed page, say the left side of one PDF page. For example, pg. 5 of the PDF file has the first two pages of the dictionary. Resize the entire Adobe Reader so that the left side only is showing.
Now you have the basic page size and you are going to use that to print the left side then the right side.
- Select print.
The dialog you get will have a group called “Print Range” on it. One of the radio buttons there is labeled “Current View”. Select that button.
In the group called “Page Handling” make sure the option for Page Scaling is set to “Fit to paper”
- Press the OK button.
This should print the page the way you want it. If not you can adjust the amount of tiext you see on the page using the zoom tool. Try to end up with as much of the view used as possibble.
OK, now for the manual labor part: To get the right side of the page you have to scroll horizontally over and make sure that part of the page is in the view. Print. Next page. Repeat.
On the version I got there are 148 pages and the actual dictionary starts on page 5. 143 x 2 = 286 iterations.
Sorry, I said that was the best I could come up with.

Thank you.
I’ll try that tomorrow.
I’m only printing the last 21 pages so that is managable.
It works.
I had to upgrade to 6.o.
The only thing I did different than your suggestion is that I rotated the page 90 degrees so that 1/2 of a pdf. page fits on 1 sheet.
Thanks again.
Until I checked out the dictionary currently posted on the textkit, I didn’t quite understand what Bert meant. There used to be a large print (one-page-per-“pdf page”) version being posted. The pages shown was not over-reduced as the current “small-print” version. And when you wanted two pages to be printed on a side of a sheet, you could turn on the printer option for it, in case the printer supports small printing.
You could ask jeff to send you the previous version, or to post it again on textkit.
And beware, the missing pages(pp. 15-16) are still missing.
