Hello everyone!

I’m Giuseppe from Italy, and I study Ancient literature at an university of my country. I really love my studies and I enjoy to to be part of this “cenaculum”, to discuss certains issues, especially of the Greek language that is very complicated but at the same time so fascinating.
Anyway I hope for a mutual help in this community, also related to my studies, with the belief that an international comparison can really help it, also due to the different approaches to the discipline of the various countries.
In particular now I am approaching a very high level of the language (This is my eighth year studying it) and so I can’t wait to talk about a lot of questions that are so crazy at the sametime! For example in this period I’m seeing how some greek forms derive from Proto-Greek and Indo-European, that is a very ancient language whose roots are in a lot of European languages today.
In conclusion guys, thank you very much. You have created all this where so many people that are interested in such human things can feel like a one single entity.

(I apologize for any mistakes I made with English, but maybe in Italy we have so much history that we look too much at the past and too little at the contemporary…but I’m fine with this)

Best regards! Χαῖρε!

Welcome to Textkit, Giuseppe!

Hi Giuseppe,

I am a HUGE fan of the past history of your wonderful country, completely immersed in the period of Roman history from the Gracchi to the end of the reign of Domitian. Then I jump forward to the time of the Medici and the wonderful painters of the Renaissance whose works are simply astoundingly good. I have had the good fortune to visit Italy many times and intend to go again once my youngest child finishes school.

And yes, Latin is my passion. Learning Greek too but for me Latin will always be the best!

Please feel free to DM me or write back here on Textkit.

Cheers.

Welcome here! I love your country–where in Italy are you?

(my photo here is from the Valley of the Temples in Sicilia.)

Also, your English is much better than my Italian.

Hi,
I’m really sorry if i didn’t answer in this long period… (and probably you forgot this messagge), but in my justification I can say that Italian universities are very complicated,. It’s my only second year and I am still searching the right method, to approach to these wonderful subjectes, but you have to trust me because you have no idea how I studied very hardly for my exams in the last period!
However, I’m really happy to see how your message is full of love for my country, and I can’t say anything except you’re right! I’m conscious of my luck to be born in Italy and I confirm its long affascinating history, but unfortunately the last our governament isn’t increasing the culture which has been heavily penalised in there years.

Anyway, I red you have been in Italy, what places? I’m from Naples and so I’m “forced” to consider my city as one of the most beautiful, but all is “storically” beatiful here.

I don’t agree about Latin being in first place…you have to excuse me but I’m a fan of greek. Although I confess that lately I’m changing my mind because in my last exam I studied the fourth book of Aeneid and I felt in love with Dido and Aeneas!

Now I’m exploring this forum, and today I post my first topic! But I don’t understand how DM work (is it possibile that I don’t have this function yet?), can you give me some help?
Nice to meet you, cheers you too.

Hi,
thanks for all.
Probably you forgot this answer…but in the last period I was stuck at the university with my exams and so I studied hardly (maybe too much because the time flied without me).
I’m from naples, and you? I recognised Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples because I have been there during the last summer, didn’t find it wonderful? I put it at the second place in my preferences, after Partenone of Athens where I went 3 years ago.
Where else have you been in Italy?

Thanks for my english but trust me, your italian may be better…

Cheers/Ciao.

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for your reply! You’re right, I had forgotten this message but it is nice to hear from you and I totally get being caught up with uni and studies. I was the same when I was studying.

Glad you are enjoying the Aeneid, it is hard not to! My bias comes from English being my first language so I have always found Latin easier than Greek due to the similarities with English, which Greek really doesn’t have to the same degree. Also a childhood spent learning French and drilling French grammar pointed me to Latin more as well.

Italy is hands down my favourite Continental European country to visit - you are blessed indeed to live there. Lovely country and wonderful people, some of the best food you will ever get to eat. What’s not to like? And a glorious and fascinating history and language from Latin to all the dialects to modern Italian. Caesar is one of my all time heroes.

I have sent you a DM so to find this you have to to go the top left of your screen where you see an icon for Notifications, Private Messages and then your userid ( Textkit name) all side by side. Click on Private messages and it opens up emails etc sent as DMs to you. There might be a rule whereby you have to have a minimum number of posts to access your DMs but I think that is 2 or 3 and you seem to have posted that by now so hopefully you can access my DM. Let me know via the message board if not.

Cheers and Ciao ( et adieu)
