Oxoniense linguam latinam mox discam

Well, I’m not sure if I got the locative right for “Oxonien,” the Latin for “Oxford,” as best as I can determine.

Nevertheless, I will be flying to Europe in a few weeks, arriving in Oxford on the 2nd of September to begin a semester study program there. This assumes that I will not be waylaid, drawn & quartered, tarred and feathered, or anything elsed while in France and Italy for ten days prior.

I will be part of The Scholars’ Semester in Oxford, a program that will land me in three courses during the Oxford trimester beginning in October, with an additional program-specific course occupying the month before that. My Oxford courses are Latin Grammar, Seminar in Classics, and British Lit from 1640-1740. All of this will take place under the auspices of Wycliffe Hall, which has been affiliated with the Oxford system for a long time but became an official hall a decade or two ago.

I can’t wait.

I suppose I am posting all of this obviously self-oriented information because

  1. my profound excitement to study Latin at Oxford after a somewhat frustrating two semesters taught by an amateur compels me to post and
  2. some of you live in England, and some of you definitely study at either Oxford or Cambridge, and therefore will be able to (if not necessarily inclined to) extend the palm branch of friendship to me or at least some useful tips, advice, and warnings.

Nunc gratiae vobis a me agendae sunt! Si hoc magna venia legere poteratis, magnopere miror! Iterum autem gratias vobis.

Cum amicitia

David

(edited to remove some typos)

[If I get my grades] I’ll be there studying Classics from October. I’ve lived in the area all my life. PM me if you want to know anything at all

Thucy, I thought you were already there!

They’re out next week right? Good luck! I will be screwed also if I don’t have all As!
