Optative of συγγιγνώσκω -- Prefix

in an exercise from Professor Mastronarde, I had to come up with the aorist active second person plural optative of συγγιγνώσκω. First I removed the prefix. The stickiest point I had is when I put the prefix back on. I used the aorist prefix συν, but the answer book has συγγοίητε. I know I remove the augment “ε”, but when a word changes the form of a prefix from the present to the aorist, is it a rule that I go back to the present prefix when forming an aorist word where I remove the augment?

It’s just that the prefix is really συν-, as I think you realize, and -νγ- is conventionally written -γγ-. Phonetically the -γγ- of συγγ- is nasalized, so that it’s more like -ng g-.

And it looks as if you mistyped συγγνοίητε (i.e. συν- + γν-, assimilated to συγγν-).

Oops. συγγνοίητε. Sorry.
