Hi all - I’d like to share a project I’ve been working on for a while: I present a digital edition of J. Riddle and T. Arnold, A Copious and Critical English-Latin Lexicon (1847). This dictionary contains approximately 24,000 headwords, with equivalents for each sense of the English headword, discussion of Latin synonyms and examples of Latin phrases and idiom. It is based on rigorous scholarship and draws mainly from Classical authors, but also contains glosses for post-Classical concepts and technologies, clearly marked with an asterisk. It also contains 8,000 proper names of places and people.
For now, a rudimentary search page is provided here though in the future the dictionary will appear alongside Woodhouse’s English-Greek Lexicon on Logeion. Thanks to Nikita Murzintcev, you can also download the dictionary to use on mobile and desktop
