Northwestern’s motto is “quaecumque sunt vera” whereas University of Alberta’s motto is simply “quaecumque vera”. Both supposedly mean “whatever’s true”. But is it possible to just omit a verb and still have a correct phrase in Latin? Or to throw one in where it isn’t needed, for that matter? This question is of paramount importance to my decision on my future education. Seriously though, any ideas?
Yes. Both mottoes are correct and idiomatic.
