Hello Everyone,

Thanks for allowing me to join the forum. I’m self-taught in Greek and Latin (though I formally studied Sanskrit many years ago, which helped) and I’m looking to hone my skills as I prepare a new translation project.

My training is largely in philosophy and library science and I’ve recently finished my doctorate with a focus on ancient philosophy, specifically Thales and how he was influenced by Acheloios.

My Greek is ok (reading competency) but my Latin is not quite as good, though my training in French has really helped and I find I can understand the gist of things, depending on the time period.

Looking forward to virtually meeting and collaborating with you all.

Cordially,

Nick

Welcome on board, Nick!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I’ve looked through the different boards a bit (fun stuff!). Which board would be most appropriate to post working translations of Eustathius—specifically the excerpts that mention Acheloios. I won’t overwhelm the boards with all of them (some are quite basic), but there are others, specifically those that compare Acheloios and Okeanos, where I need to be extra careful I’m reading it right and could use expert eyes.

Nick, I’ve been studying sanskrit on my own for a while and I was wondering if I could ask you for your suggestions on textbooks or other material that you may have found useful in your past studies. I noticed your Winthrop Sargeant suggestion on Feb. 20, which looks very good.
