I am teaching myself Classical Greek using JACT also and am doing the review exercises for Sections 1-G currently. I would be happy to share any tips or resources you might have in addition to the texts so please feel free to contact me via this message board on via PM here as well.
Welcome to Textkit Villanelle,
Regarding cricket, I did get to see Andre Russell play in the Thunder vs Stars BBL match. We don’t get much cricket coverage in the U.S., but I suscribe to a European streaming service (mostly for Greek television), so I’m able to the watch some matches on Sky. I imagine I’d have to cheer for Melbourne, as we have some distant family there. As to yesterday’s match, I’d have to agree Sidney was robbed of a wicket on that non-dismissal call. It was a beautiful catch. If it were American baseball, it would be the equivalent of stealing a home run whilst tripping over the fence into the bullpen.
Am I correct to think you are of Greek heritage hence relatives in lovely Melbourne? I have never met any folks from the US ( and I have quite a few friends and colleagues there from my work) who had any interest in cricket so it’s great to hear from you I didn’t see the match from yesterday nor the highlights as our internet coverage was spotty but that does sound like good drama in the game!
The distant family is on my wife’s side. Her cousin’s first wife is from Melbourne. Melinda didn’t care much for our winters as well as other aspects of life here and so moved back to Australia, however she does come to visit now and again. I’m not Greek, but I’ve spent all but 10 of my 70 years in close contact with Greek communities here in the Northeastern US. I started learning modern Greek at the age of 10 at a local Orthodox church and when the time came, I sent my 4 sons to “Greek School” (Think ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’.)
Hope you’re enjoying JACT. It seems like one of the best learner books out there. Having seen all the great resources on this forum, I’m not sure if you’ll need any tips from me, but give me a shout if you have any questions. Is there anything in particular you’re looking for? My approach to learning Greek is to read as many books as possible and pick up the grammar intuitively as I go along, and if I get stuck I review the grammar. I’ve also recently found videos on Koine Greek on YouTube which are pretty good. That’s what got me into the idea of learning to speak AG like a living language. I didn’t realise many people did it until recently so quite excited to give it a go. Don’t know too much about cricket I’m afraid. Watch the six nations rugby and the world cup but that’s about it for sport. Mainly into world literature and ancient languages.
Sounds good. I hope to do a full immersion when I can. There’s a surprising amount of ancient greek speakers around. Do you know of a group who meet online to speak in ancient or koine greek?
Χαίρετε πάλιν. Does anyone know of a group that meets to speak Ancient Greek online? As I’m working I can only do the times below Mon-Fri or any time at weekends. Παρακαλώ.

I could do some AG emails or PMs with you (here or on Facebook, for example) if you like. My reading skill is better than my writing, but I enjoy the practice.
