What do others think about having a new sub forum in “textbooks” where questions about Ørberg’s LLPSI could be posted? It seems to me that as we get more questions on this series than any of the other textbooks it would be convenient if they were all in the same place.
Joel would it require a lot of work for you? Is it possible to move posts out of learning Latin to a new sub forum?
This is an opportunity also to express thanks to Joel for the work he does in keeping Textkit running!
The textbook subforums have all been spectacular failures, unfortunately. I’ve already collapsed the old Greek ones into the moribund “Greek Textbooks and Study Groups” to conserve page space. The existing Latin ones will follow one day. A new LLPSI forum would have the effect of moving all of the Learning Latin traffic below the page fold without perceptibly improving people’s ability to find new LLPSI posts.
You will wish to think about what we’re trying to optimize with sub-forum selection. We probably want to break off a new forum once we’re getting 5-10 new topics a day on LLSPI and several new non-LLSPI topics, and we need to isolate the two types of traffic to improve signal. Neither the first or second is true at this point. Were they to both to become true, it might be either the Latin Poetry Forum or the Neo-Latin Forum that would get the axe (go below page-fold), as they don’t get much traffic now, though still more than the textbook forums.
Thanks Joel that sounds very sensible. You are in a better position to judge these things.
