Need your help: transcribing Hebrew

Salvete,

I have just finished proofreading my digital edition of Pericla Navarchi Magonis sive Expeditio Phoenicia annis ante Christum mille, Arcadius Avellanusโ€™ translation of the adventure novel The Adventures of Captain Mago by Lรฉon Cahun.

The only thing missing are transcriptions of Hebrew words in an appendix (Notae Interpretis). I need help with those. I tried to transcribe them myself using tables of Hebrew characters, but I failed. I am afraid, they are all Hebrew to me. There are about 150 Hebrew words in this appendix. The appendix can be found in this Hathi Trust-edition.

150 words sounds like a lot, but it should not be quite that much work. If someone knows Hebrew (and how to type it in unicode), please help. The words should be each embedded with three Latin words before and after it so that I can find the context in the book.

Once finished I will donate the text to Gutenberg.org.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Carolus Raeticus

All of the Hebrew words seem to be transcribed in the Latin text.

Salve,

the page at Hathi Trust is only an image. The point of transcribing is converting the text from a mere image into characters actually understood by a computer (thereby unleashing the text). If I say โ€œHebrew wordsโ€ I do not mean the transliteration but the words using the Hebrew script.

Carolus Raeticus

You might want to check out the Society of Biblical Literature site. You can download Hebrew font there and also find instructions for downloading a Hebrew โ€œkeyboardโ€ that enables one to type the downloaded Hebrew font.

Here you are. There was a typo in n.48 (the Hebrew read โ€œAshlelonโ€).

Salve Shenoute!

Thank YOU! Your list comes completely unexpexted and is all the more welcome. It will make it possible to make the transcription complete. Gratias tibi ago.

Vale,

Carolus Raeticus

Youโ€™re welcome. I saw after posting that this was thread necromancy so I did not know if it would still be useful.

Salve Shenoute!

I am just incorporating your Hebrew transliterations into the new version. I noticed that two Hebrew words are missing:

    1. [โ€ฆ] si hoc minus sit, oportet esse #####, El-ish-shah: see page 326.
    1. Hazaรฉl, -is, ####, Chazรกรฉlโ€ฆ: see page 329.

Could you please supply these two as well?

Carolus Raeticus

Sorry for that!

  1. ืืœืืฉื”
  2. ื—ื–ืืœ

And I noticed I made a mistake n. 43. It should be ื—ืœื‘ื•ืŸ.

The font used in the book is not very clear for some letters (ื”/ื— for instance). Iโ€™ll check the list today and post new corrections if needed.

Salve,

thank you for your help. It is really appreciated.

Vale,

Carolus Raeticus
