I cannot find any reference to this word. Probably not looking in the right place. Found it in the 1st para of Harrius Potter Ch 1. I know that I am not yet up to reading this ( self studying with Wheelocks - up to Chap 20) but it is good to have some more advance stuff to struggle with. (with which to struggle!) I can easily spend an hour on a sentence and probably still not get the meaning quite right - but that is the way I learn best.
Anyway “rebus” has me stumped!
“in toto orbe terrarum vix credas quemquam esse minus deditum REBUS novis et arcanis, …”
My computer dictionary, Latin WORDS, has:
res, rei
thing; event, business; fact; cause; property; [res familiaris => property]
