Oddly enough, if you install the “Hawaiian” keyboard in Windows 10, you can add a macron to any vowel using the Alt key. Itʻs by far the easiest solution I found.
Alternatively those of us that have Mac OS can use the Maori keyboard! It does not however work on “y” I get ¥ but ā ē ī ō ū seem to work fine. option + letter
Can you not assign a special key like I have on linux? Just to save having a foreign kb. Mine’s a Spanish kb but works fine for English once you get used to it.
Having said that, I also get a ¥ instead of the y with macron.

Yeah, in my Ubuntu box, I just edited one of the English xkb keyboards to have all the macrons with right-side Alt + vowel, including ȳ, and the breves with a dead key. (Unfortunately, Unicode doesn’t have a precomposed y + breve, so I use the combining diacritic for that. But I rarely use it anyway.)
