On page 138 of familia romana, the uses of suus does not apear to be reflextive. Both wheelock’s and my dictionary do not show any use of this word other than 1) reflextive possessive 2) to mean “due or proper” 3) or as a subt.
The meaning would apear to be that the “tabulam” are owned by the boys. Diodorus is the subject and this is the main clause, so..? I wonder if it has something do do with the indef. pronoun? In the sentance before this one he uses “eorum” as a poss. to “litterae” so why not in this sentence?

P.S. I was wondering why posters choice to learn latin? I have always been interested in language but funny enough to choice latin because of stargate.
I’ve been told that “magister suam cuique discipulo” is idiomatic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiom) . “Suam” refers to “cuique” = to each (cuique) his own (suam). Can’t say more than this.
Oh, and latin is just a tool, the means to an end, the end being “knowledge”. Please do inform us if you find anything in life better than knowledge.

Actually, I simply find Latin more enjoyable than watching TV or wasting my time is some pub, that’s just me, to each his own.
