Lingua Iaponica?

Hi,
I’m a long time user of D’ooge’s beginner’s Latin textbook from this site, and recently I bought Orberg’s Lingua Latina, which i find really useful. Are there any beginner’s readers for learning other foreign languages, e.g. Japanese?
Thanks

I received this link in my email today. It is for a Spanish book that uses the same method as Oerberg does in Lingua Latina per se Illustrata.
However, I make no representation as to its quality etc.

That’s remarkable! It looks like they just copied Ørberg’s formula completely. They were right to do so. I tried doing the same thing, to write an Italian reader like this, but I found I just didn’t have the time.

Here’s what I’m looking for: something like LINGVA LATINA or LENGVA ESPAÑOLA for Italian. I would love to be able to recommend something like this for my students, or use it to teach from. Please, let me know, anyone, if you’ve heard of something like this.

Thanks again, Leonine.

Lengua Espanola ? Can someone clue me in what that is about .. I looked on amazon but wasn’t sure what I was looking for. Who is the author ? Thanks

Kynete,

Here is the full email I received from a mailing list. I trust I am not breeching any etiquette by pasting it here.

Hi!,

I would like to present a new book to learn Spanish, based on the Hans Oerberg’s method, published in Spain a couple of weeks ago.

Well the title is “Lengua española: Comprensión”.

The webpage were you can find more info is:

http://www.fostrum.com/index_e.html (English)

Please, keep in mind that we started this endeavour alone and without any support from the publishing industry. We published the book by our own means, and we are still searching for an inexpensive but safe way to send the books out of Europe.

Also, this is the first time we show the book to the public. We already sent the first books to Mr. Oerberg, as a proof of respect and admiration.

Any comments and/or critics are welcome.

About the author:

Ms Staykova is MA in Spanish Philology by the Sofia University, Bulgaria (1992). Since the year 2000 she is living and working in Spain. She is certified sworn interpreter in the Spanish Court and Police.

This book is the result of the teaching experience of the author in one public school of Málaga, Spain, where is very common to have students from 6 or 7 nationalities (from Africa to Norway) in the same class. That fact forced her to start making the lessons using Hans Orberg’s method and it was the unique way to educate together a different people from very different cultures and ages.

Thanks for your time, and thanks again DD, for your support,

Alfredo Martín Comps

Leoninus,

Thanks for posting the announcement. Interesting! I guess I was sleeping at the PC when I made my query. If I had been more alert, I would have just have followed the link to learn all about it. Best. Kynetus

15 years after you asked the question I am glad to let you know that someone has finally decided to attempt doing it (me  ) !

The idea lying behind the Ørberg’s LLPSI is called “direct” or “natural” method. Vivarium Novum has a collection of such textbooks.

I used Studien und Plaudereien to learn German, and it was a very pleasant reading (love it). Deutsch für Ausländer (Kessler) is also a good course, but it may be difficult to find all the books.

P.S. Oh my, what an old topic you have revived!
