I have a Kindle (an ebook reader from Amazon.com) and I wondered if anyone has found a Latin to English dictionary that will work on a Kindle; a dictionary that can recognize the various parts of speech much like Whitaker’s Words. Amazon sells two dictionaries for Kindle that are Latin to English (not what I want) and one English to Latin but the review on that suggest it doesn’t work as expected. Thanks for any ideas.
There’s actually at least one good Latin-English dictionary for Kindle, and a few English-Latin dictionary (can’t say if they’re any good as I didn’t try).
Just search for “latin dictionary” on Kindle Store and you’ll easily find them.
There are now a couple of Latin-English dictionaries for the Kindle available.
Here’s the least expensive one (which I use. Works great): http://www.amazon.com/A-Digital-Latin-Dictionary-ebook/dp/B005CA3W2G/
There’s another which is essentially the same. Both are based on Whitaker’s Words.
I bought the Digital Latin Dictionary but couldn’t get it to work at first. I also have the Wiktionnaire for French on my Kindle and even when I changed my primary dictionary I still got the Wiktionnaire as the primary dictionary. The Latin dictionary wouldn’t work until I completely removed the Wiktionnaire from my Kindle, then it worked just fine. This is something of a nuisance since the Wiktionnaire is such a big file I hate to keep removing and re-installing it every time I want to change what I’m reading.
