Hi-Has anybody here taken the Latin Praxis? (For advanced Latin students-it’s available in the U.S. & Canada). If so, how would you advise people to study for it? Is there anything like a study guide for preparing for the Praxis? Thanks- I have been advised to take it so I want to be prepared. Paige.
I’m not familiar with it, but have you seen this short guide (PDF) to the test?
Brandon-Thank you! That is helpful-wish it were longer, but i will definetly use it. Regards, Paige.
There is a study guide here: (Sorry, I can’t seem to insert a hyperlink for the word “here”.)

The page is described as “Wheelock-linked Exercises and Explanation Pages From the Latin Teaching Materials Site at Saint Louis University”.
There’s also a study guide for a similar exam here:

Magistra
Magistra: Thanks-I’ll check these out. I’m actually teaching Latin part-time, but my school has decided to tighten the standards for part-time teachers, so…I have to take it. Thanks for your help. Paige.
Welcome to the fold! Have you joined LatinTeach? What textbook are you using? I can probably give you more information for helps with that too. We Latin teachers are very eclectic and technologically advanced, not to mention sharing, kind and welcoming.
Magistra (aka Sandy)
Magistra-Hi, thanks for the welcome. I used Wheelock mostly in college, but I a m using “Latin for Americans” as my teaching text. I was told “the kids need lots of visuals & this has lots of visuals, so use it,” it does have some great illustrations. The problem is getting all the students involved. I only have two classes, but one is 21 students and the other is 24, so it’s hard to figure out the best approach for all of them. My background was in classical archaeology, so I am using a lot of that (PowerPoints, etc.) to grab their attention. Any advice is appreciated! Paige.
I had a teacher in high school who sparked my interest in arab history by giving me the version of arabian nights translated by Sir richard francis burton with everything that that entails. Maybe a good saucy slighty inapropriate story would work.
Hi Magistra,
Out of curiosity I tried the practice exam at the TCA site you listed and scored 73 out of 96. I made most mistakes in the C section (real authors ). Any idea what that means? Am I false-beginner, intermediate, lower-advanced …? (Not that I plan to teach Latin! For me Latin’s just a fun activity.)
Cheers,
Int
