Latin mottos

Here is a little project I am working on. It’s a Latin motto generator. I will be adding more patterns soon, hopefully. And it is not difficult to expand the database.

This may be a nice way to get someone interested in Latin…

Usually in classical Latin, the preposition “ex” becomes “e” before a consonant.

There is really no such rule.

L&S:
ex always before vowels, and elsewh. more freq. than e; e. g. in Cic. Rep. e occurs 19 times, but ex 61 times, before consonants–but no rule can be given for the usage;

Indeed.

Very cool generator, Deses! Euge!

I said usually, but I didn’t realize that it was so infrequent with Cicero. At first I thought it might have been letters v. orations, but a quick search through Perseus proved that wrong. Are there any other stats that you are aware of? What about further back?

glacies et amicitia, eh? I wonder when I can use that Latin motto … might be a good title for an off-beat work of fiction…

Let’s see…
Air Conditioning Contractors Association of America (http://www.acca.org/)
International Packaged Ice Association (http://www.packagedice.com/bottom.htm)
The Old Antarctic Explorers Association (http://www.oaea.net/OAEAMain.html)

The possibilities are endless :slight_smile:

Well, I suppose I do prefer icy friendships over steamy ones. Room temperature friendships are the most comfortable, though.
