JACT Reading Greek Additional Audio Recordings?

I’m a beginner self-studying Greek with the second edition of the JACT Reading Greek series of books, which I’m enjoying quite a bit. I also have the Speaking Greek CDs that go along with the main text, but they unfortunately do not cover the entire book. This is a shame, because listening to the audio while reading the passages helps me tremendously with internalizing the language.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any other recordings out there for the book besides the official Speaking Greek CD set? Athenaze, for example, has a few different unofficial recordings floating out there on the internet, so I’m curious if there are any for this. I know that there was a cassette released alongside the first edition of the book way back when, though I’m unsure if the selection of passages covered is the same or not. (Not to mention that actually getting a copy and finding a way to resurrect my 30-year-old Walkman is another issue entirely.)

Apologies if this has been asked before. I searched but didn’t find anything.

I’m not sure if they cover the same texts as Speaking Greek, as I don’t have it!

Here’s an example of him reading a snippet of another text, so you can get a taste for his pronunciation and style (note that he uses a different system from the typical “reconstructed” one, which he explains elsewhere on his channel):

I haven’t heard his full readings so don’t take this as a recommendation, but it may well be what you’re looking for.

Not quite what you (and I) are looking for, but these JACT summer school clips are quite useful.

It looks like he covers some additional passages that the Speaking Greek CDs don’t, so these should be helpful! I get the feeling that as I continue to listen to the language being spoken I’ll need to get used to the different pronunciation systems anyway. Thanks for the heads up!

Ah, I remember coming across these before, but I didn’t pay too much attention to them at the time. You’re right that they’re not exactly what we’re looking for, but could be a good resource nonetheless. I’ll have to give them another look. Thanks!

So I take it you’re also studying with JACT? How are you liking it so far?

JACT seems to suit me. Despite Mastronarde’s excellent online resources I shall continue with JACT, being more comfortable with “pen and paper” as it were.

I wonder if some of the mistakes are deliberate traps, eg exercise 5A-B:6 6. ἐδουλοῦντο. Answer: They were showing. Shouldn’t that be “enslaving”, or am I missing something?

Hi that does seem to be a mistake. I am sure it is not a trap. Proof reading books like this must be a nightmare. But the tables on page 96 and 97 make is clear what the answer should be.

ἐδουλοῦντο is the middle imperfect of δουλόω. (uncontracted)

ἐδηλοῦντο is the middle imperfect of δηλόω. (uncontracted)

Thanks seneca for reassuring confirmation.
