With all these insults being hurled at one another particularly in Canada I have an idea wherewith textkit might be spiced up a little. Or a lot depending on the fighters.
Have any of you ever been on a rap forum? (Asking Greek and Latin students here…) Perhaps not, well, there they have ‘freestyle battles’ wherein they pretty much insult eachother and are judged by certain supremes. The winner fights the next challenger etc. Or there are even tournaments, occasionally with prizes.
Anyway we should do this. But in Latin and Ancient Greek. No holds barred. I don’t really think any one apart from me and perhaps milito with her nominally evident experience (where the mountain trek are you girl?) can get any more rude than Martial.
As Brandy says have you ever wanted to insult whiteoctave for example, or perhaps his mother, or perhaps his mother’s mother’s grandmother, regardless of who they actually may be! In Latin? In Greek? Or do you just want to boast how good you are? Or talk about mountain treks? Or your dogs’ not going to heaven?
There should be set rules (i.e. metre/none/if so which scheme, min-max no. of lines etc.) by which the combatant is to stand throughout lest he be penalized so badly you know.
textkit be cool and I bees thinking that this will certainly make these forums a more vibrant place. We can even set up crews who be dissing a rival crew and, figuratively of course, shoot them up all over the Open Forum. Remember it’s only in Latin and Greek. Therefore it is relevant and helps so much with the development of one’s skills. Just read Urbis Viri Romae, nothing helps the student more than constant composition practise. Even if you are a LOSER you still win! yay! pass me the broccoli heidi! If you are the winner you have occasionem truimphi agendi, the right to be paraded about textkit as the supreme lord of classical insults/textkit verse freestyle sheet…s of paper whereon your name is…yes…
It’s not all about brilliance with the language, for Skylax would win every time if this were so, it’s about that coupled with the orginality of the piece etc. Raya can even sing hers if she so wish. And ooh the personalities will cause nuclear fission in yo eye!
No but seriously verse freestyle battles? That is sick. Just imagine: WHITEOCTAVE v SKYLAX, benissimus v (BOOSH!) JEFF.
Perhaps David could pull some strings and even ask some famous classics professors to take on the champion. That’s a long shot but hey the possibilities are endless and the forum would just, figuratively of course, blow up!
