Hello everyone. I’m starting my Latin studies as an adult learner, recently having taken early retirement. I missed my chance 45 years ago when I had to choose which subjects to study for ‘O’ Level (the national exams everyone here takes at 16), and picked German instead, something which I’ve come to regret in recent decades.
Anyway, I have some objectives, a study plan and I’ve acquired LLPSI Familia Romana, the exercitia and teacher’s materials, plus Colloquia Personarum and Fabulae Syrae, and finally Jeanne Neumann’s companion to FR, so I have plenty to get on with. My impression of LLPSI is that I think I’ll get the most out of it if I also have a good overview of the grammatical context of each new element as it is introduced, so I’ve ordered Wheelock’s (and the associated readers and exercises) and also Moreland & Fleischer’s Intensive Latin course (the latter mostly as a reference when I need it).
We shall see whether a hybrid approach works with my learning style, but my ultimate goal is to be able to read classical authors with a good degree of fluency, so accessing original texts as part of the learning experience sounds like a good idea. Time will tell!
