Hello to all,

I went to school in Greece in the 1960/70s, I learned too little ancient Greek, I was not enthousiastic at that time. My first language is Modern Greek, I speak German, English and some French. I am a physician, moved since many years ago to Germany, have grown older and I would like now to learn ancient Greek anew on my own. I have begun with the Iliad, I use Perseus, Logeion and some Grammar books. I try to understand all I can, the language itself, the world views and the feelings of the personages in the poem.

Welcome on board. It is so rare at least in English speaking subs to find Greeks of your generation interested in the Classics. I think you will bring us more than you can realize, as you had the opportunity to use Kathaverousa as a written standard. Even if your knowledge of Homeric is defective, you are likely the closest thing we have today to a native speaker of Attic, I think. I guess your headstart in the language would be at least equivalent to that of the Cyprians and the Romaic turks.
