Gunkel talks about musical evidence and about potential origins of the accentuation rules.

I’ve found this sort of analysis of accentuation more valuable than re-reading the rules of accentuation. Like with contraction, I find rules only really make sense once I can make the connection with how that behavior is the product of the language being actually spoken.
