Inscription on Mosaic at the Louvre

This appeared yesterday on the New Liturgical Movement blog.

Christian funerary mosaic, with Chrismon (detail below), birds and vine; from Tunisia, end of the 4th or beginning of the 5th century

I’m reading
NARDUS.SENIOR
IURAS.SUSIONIOR
RESTITUISIUNIOR
PECESSITPRIDIEIDUS
MAIASAFIDELESINPACE

pridie idus maias fideles in pace is easy.
peces → preces?

Starts with three names. 2 Tvrassvs ivnior, 3 Restitvtvs ivnior.
4 decessit was my first thought, but I guess recessit was the intention (not adjusted for the plurality)?

Quite — one can still see the mosaic stone at the end of the diagonal line to make a P into an R.

Thanks!

If you type ‘NARDUS SENIOR’ as Search text 1 on the seach page of the Epigraphic-Datenbank you’ll find ‘Nardus Senior / Turassus Iunior / Restitutus Iunior / recessit(!) pridie Idus / Maias fideles in pace’.

I really like their clickable map of Geographical distribution of inscriptions!

Thanks. I actually saw this with my own eyes when I lived thereby. The lady who found it on her property was a friend of my mother and was allowed to keep it, provided she would show it to the asking. R.I.P.
