howdy!

Greetings! I’ve always been interested in ancient Greece (specifically the Mycenaeans), but I’m only now a new student of classical studies (focused on language and literature).

I’m currently trying to learn attic Greek (really just trying to see what I can teach myself before classes start in the fall). I’d list out other interests but really I just want to learn everything, I have too many interests. I suppose pottery is the thing I currently like learning about the most.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to learning with y’all and hopefully making some new friends.

Welcome! What’s your method of learning Greek going to be? I should think you’ll be able to get a lot learned over the summer if you can dedicate a decent amount of time to it… but I say that as someone who didn’t have to teach himself as a beginner

So far, I have two books I’m using: A Course in Attic Greek by Patrick Lake, and An Introduction to Greek by Crosby and Schaeffer. These specific books just because I found them at two goodwills. I also have a PDF of Thrasymachus that I’m going to start with soon I think.

I’m trying to dedicate about an hour or so each day of actual practice, and lately I’ve managed to get around another 30 or so minutes as well of just general messing around (YouTube vids, flashcards, that sorta thing).

Good luck with it! I haven’t used those books, but if you’re not sure about anything do go ahead and ask on the learning Greek board

I used C&S to supplement Thrasymachus at one point. They’re both great.

Welcome here!

If you can manage an hour a day, you’re doing well. I am far less disciplined.
