Plato, Meno 94b: (Pericles taught his sons horsemanship, such that) οὐδενὸς χείρους Ἀθηναίων
Why doesn’t it translate as “no one worse” (among the Athenians)?
χείρους is acc. pl. He taught them to be χείρους (worse) than οὐδενὸς Ἀθηναίων (nobody of the Athenians). Worse than no one = as good as anyone.
Thank you. This has helped me to work it out.
