I am teaching an online Latin class with our homeschool co-op and wanted to see if anyone has any relevant experience with or input about the method we are using.
The students are very young 6-10, so for most reading is very new and a struggle or just emerging. There are a couple of kids older than that. This class is free and my solution has been to utilize free resources for LLPSI. I’ve made power points explaining the grammar (in English) presented in each section alongside Legonium’s “version” of the text and then created some Quizlet flashcards that are the open question exercises or Pensum C. So its Q and A in Latin with the audio of me saying it and a relevant picture alongside the answer. The format only allows for one 30min class a week and we are covering one lectio per class so far. We are just now starting ch.2. It seems to be working decently well so far. My 6yr old insists he doesn’t know it but keeps answering questions correctly so something is being understood. But we review for a few minutes each day and I doubt most folks are. For the age range something in-person with more concrete vocab would be better I think. For example in Ch1 they have to learn the geography to understand anything.
I haven’t used any big grammar terminology yet just male, subject, verb, one, more than one etc. I also color code words and endings when the first see them and for a bit after. Male words are blue and the adjectives ends they agree with are blue.
I share the link to chapter on YouTube and tell them what part of the video we covered.
I just provide links to online versions of the workbook and Pensum for the older kids.
