The quote above is from the website from which I (thought I) learnt the “double dative” thing. I’m still not sure why am I wrong on that, since the quotation’s example is very alike mine.

I don’t think you are wrong. One of the datives in a Double Dative construction could probably be seen as a Dative of Reference. My experience is that instructors tend to concentrate on the predicative part of the construction which is sometimes harder to grasp.
