Ingrams ligatures helped, except at the end (ὂμως)

Ὂ υλυμῶόν ευʹ ὅθι Θασὶ θεῶν ἒὀος ἀσθαλὲς αἰεὶ Ἒμεναι, οὔτʹ ἄνεμοισι τιν άοςεται οὔτέ ῶοτʹ ὂμως

The underlined word is “ποτ΄” (the first letter is s.c. “omega pi”)
The last word is probably “ὂμβρώ” (rain).

That’s from Homer (Odysseia, 6, vv. 42-46):

Οὔλυμπόνδ᾽, ὅθι φασὶ θεῶν ἕδος ἀσφαλὲς αἰεὶ
ἔμμεναι· οὔτ᾽ ἀνέμοισι τινάσσεται οὔτε ποτ᾽ ὄμβρῳ
δεύεται οὔτε χιὼν ἐπιπίλναται, ἀλλὰ μάλ᾽ αἴθρη
πέπταται ἀννέφελος, λευκὴ δ᾽ ἐπιδέδρομεν αἴγλη·
τῷ ἔνι τέρπονται μάκαρες θεοὶ ἤματα πάντα.

As the text says, it’s quoted by the author of the Pseudo-Aristoteles’ De Mundo (400a 11-14).

Some accents and breathing marks are just wrong.

Some accents and breathing marks are just wrong.

In the manuscript everything is in fact correct except for ἄνεμοισι, which should be ἀνέμοισι.

ἔδος > ἕδος
οὔτέ > οὔτε
ἐπιδἐδρομεν > ἐπιδέδρομεν
ἥματα > ἤματα

This is not a manuscript. It’s a printed book.

Thanks tico. I was only looking at the two lines in will dawe’s post, and on the blurry image my eyes are not up to seeing the difference between the diacritics on οθι and those on εδος .

οὔτέ ποτ’ respects the enclitic, so that’s just a competing accentuation rather than an error. And it wouldn’t be surprising if there were a question of aspiration with ηματα, just as with ημερα.

ἄνεμοισι suggests expectation of a shorter form such as ἄνεμος. I wonder what kind of exemplar the typesetter was working from.
