Frequency vocabulary a greek boy at home

Hi everyone.
Well first I want to tell you what I’m doing.
I’m trying to do a memrise course with the vocabulary (ancient greek-ancient greek) that Rouse wrote for his learning book a greek boy at home. Because this this is why I have copied the vocabulary of rouse, each entry, from the pdf to an excel file one by one of the 1800 words with their own definitions. I already finish this and I also have them corrected.

Due the vocabulary is in alphabetical and not frequency order I was trying to find some help because I’m not good at those stuffs related with frequency and stadistics (I don’t even know how could I do this, which programs can I use and son on) perhaps I was thinking if anyone of you can elaborate a frequency vocabulary of Rouse’s A greek boy at home, and then I just have to reorganice what I have according that frequency. Do you know how can it be possible?

A lot of the lookups there are garbage. It looks like someone tried to automate it all? Even if all of the dictionary lookups were to be corrected, it completely defeats the point of learning Greek without English interference Greek. At that point you’re far better off clicking around on Biblehub or Perseus with a native text.

People should use whatever they get benefit from. Please don’t let me judge that for you. But there are few resources like Greek Boy, and many many clicky-lookup texts.

However, looking at it a bit more, I don’t actually find many “garbage” results. I had an unlucky first attempt, perhaps, clicking on ὥρα in “ὥρα νῦν λέγειν σοι…”. “Season” is an incorrect gloss (here) for a good parse, though 3rd person of ὅραω imperfect, also included, is wrong. But few lookups seem as bad as that. I see things like ἄλλα parsing as neuter plural (correct), or dual (bad here), or Doric feminine (bad here). τῆς νεώς parses as temple (bad)/ship (correct)/temple (bad).

If someone really does see a benefit in turning this into a clicky-lookup text for Greek Boy, they might want to curate the lookup results. However, even better would be to turn it into a clicky-lookup text that pulls up the Greek Vocabulary included in the text. Though even that can’t be used without some work:

From the vocabulary:
ἄλλος· other, another; besides
ναῦς· πλοῖον
ὥρα· μέρος τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ ἢ τοῦ βίου

For ὥρα in ὥρα νῦν λέγειν σοι…, a teacher probably wants something like ὁ χρόνος ἐν ᾧ δεῖ τι ποεῖν (or something, I’m often very incorrect at expression). ἄλλος is introduced early when Rouse is still using some English, but later on could be something like οὐκ ὁ αὐτὸς καὶ οὐκ ὁ ἴδιος, ἄλλ᾿ ἄλλος. ἔχων Σωκράτης λίθους ἔχει λίθον τινὰ καὶ λίθους ἄλλους.

And finally, the site author will probably wish to cache calls to Alpheios, so that only the first user gets the lookup wait time.
